The shifter, also known as a quickshifter, consists of an electronic unit — adjustable or not depending on the chosen model — and a harness that connects to the motorcycle's ignition coils. It performs a micro-cut allowing gear changes while maintaining full throttle, without operating the clutch and without damaging the gearbox.

At full throttle, to change gear, many riders roll off the throttle, pull the clutch, click into gear, release the clutch and then open the throttle again. With a shifter, there is no need to touch the clutch or throttle: a simple upward click of the foot is enough.

The electronic ignition micro-cut relieves the gearbox for a brief moment and allows full-throttle gear changes. To achieve this, the gear lever is fitted with a sensor that transmits movement information to the electronic unit.
